چکیده

Organic agriculture is a production system that relies on prevention, ecological processes, biodiversity, mechanical and natural cycles to control pests maintain productivity. Pesticide use generally limited or absent in organic agroecosystems, contrast with non-organic (conventional) systems primarily rely pesticides for crop protection. Significant differences pesticide between the two markedly alter relative dietary exposure risk levels environmental impacts of pesticides. Data are presented farms all crops selected horticultural crops. The risks posed by food, focus fresh produce, also compared. results support notion apply far less intensively than conventional farms, part because, over time well-managed pest pressure falls when compared nearby growing same Biopesticides predominant used production, which work non-toxic mode action, pose minimal human health environment. Consequently, eating especially fruits vegetables, can largely eliminate exposure. We recommend ways lower increased adoption farming practices highlight options along food supply chains further reduce use, exposures, adverse worker impacts.

In-feed Antibiotics Conventional poultry farming systems often include subtherapeutic amounts of antibiotics in the feed to prevent disease and improve production performance. In contrast, organic poultry producers can not, by law, include antibiotics in the feed. Interestingly, advocates for both organic and conventionally raised poultry have each claimed that the absence or presence of in-fe...

Organic Diets Significantly Lower Children’s Dietary Exposure to Organophosphorus Pesticides

We used a novel study design to measure dietary organophosphorus pesticide exposure in a group of 23 elementary school-age children through urinary biomonitoring. We substituted most of children's conventional diets with organic food items for 5 consecutive days and collected two spot daily urine samples, first-morning and before-bedtime voids, throughout the 15-day study period. We found that ...
